Emerging Europe

Türkiye’s Lidya Madencilik has agreed to increase its stake in the Hod Maden gold-copper project to 85% in a royalty-based transaction valued at an estimated EUR 446.4mn. Lidya will acquire Canadian miner SSR Mining’s 20% stake and operatorship in exchange for a 4.0% net smelter return (NSR) royalty. Separately, U.S. precious metals streaming company Royal Gold will convert its 15% project stake into an uncapped 2.5% NSR royalty, while retaining 15% interest and future royalty rights.

Latin America and the Caribbean

Bermuda-based Butterfield Bank has agreed to acquire CIBC’s 91.7% stake in CIBC Caribbean for USD 1.8bn, creating a leading banking and wealth management platform across the Caribbean and international financial centers with approximately USD 29bn in assets. The consideration comprises USD 1.09bn in cash and USD 703mn in Butterfield shares. Following completion, Butterfield will launch a mandatory takeover offer for the remaining 8.3% stake held by minority shareholders.

Emerging Asia

Chinese artificial intelligence startup StepFun raised nearly CNY 17bn (USD 2.5bn) in a funding round backed by strategic investors including Huaqin Technology, Longcheer Technology, ZTE, OmniVision-related entities, and Hong Kong Investment Corporation. The proceeds will fund the development of large language models, multimodal AI technologies, and AI agents, while strengthening industry partnerships. The financing also supports StepFun’s preparations for a Hong Kong IPO, following its restructuring into a joint-stock company.
