Colombia Construction Sector Outlook 2026

Construction is currently the most lagging sector of the Colombian economy: its value added remains 26% below 2019 levels, and none of its subsectors has yet recovered to that benchmark. However, the aggregate picture masks two opposing dynamics, and understanding them is what separates a headline-level view from an informed business decision.

This report brings together 14 charts that reconstruct the entire value chain: what is sustaining the sector through civil engineering works, why building construction continues to struggle, how real interest rates at record highs have constrained mortgage lending, and what is happening with new housing demand on a month-by-month basis, including sales by segment, inventory turnover, and the pipeline of units under construction, which has been declining since its 2024 peak.

It combines official data from DANE and the Financial Superintendency of Colombia with monthly information from La Galería Inmobiliaria, available through CEIC, with breakdowns by segment (VIS, VIP, Non-VIS), housing type, socioeconomic stratum, and city. This level of detail is not available from any public source and is released up to one month ahead of official quarterly figures.
